His wife looked over.
“What?”
“Why is everyone sending me messages?”
She took his phone.
Then she started laughing.
Marcus grabbed it back.
Someone had posted a picture from yesterday.
It showed Marcus standing beside the car.
He was holding the piece of wire.
Behind him were two police officers.
The caption read:
“Neighborhood Hero Stops Suspicious Car Thief.”
Marcus nearly dropped his coffee.
“NEIGHBORHOOD HERO?”
His wife laughed.
“At least they didn’t call you a criminal.”
Marcus scrolled down.
Someone had commented:
“That man looks dangerous.”
Another person wrote:
“I knew he was up to something.”
Someone else wrote:
“Give this man a medal.”
Marcus stared at the screen.
“I hate the internet.”
His wife smiled.
“You helped someone.”
“I almost got arrested for helping someone.”
“But you didn’t.”
“Because the keys were in her purse!”
His wife laughed again.
Marcus shook his head.
From that day forward, Marcus became famous in the neighborhood.
